I will look forward to playing this course after is has a good dousing of rain as when I played in October 08 the course was looking rather tatty with the course having no real respite from the ongoing drought in Victoria. Fairways are not only burnt off but there seems to a slacking off from people  not filling in their divots as you would hope which doesnt help the current course conditions. Greens however are still in good nick although surprisingly slower than I remembered from my last visit. Most are turtle back greens sloping back to front that are fairly hard so accuracy needs to be at a premium. My favourite hole would be the par 4, 12th which is set up beautifully if you can get your draw to work off the tee which will allow you a reasonably easy shot into a narrow green. I find Sandringham’s front nine to be  more open, flat and a less challenging 9 than the back nine which has far more trees and scrubs coming into play with a couple of the holes formally being from the neighbouring Royal Melbourne course.

Overall the course has some real potential ( if it ever rains in Melbourne!)  with the food and service at the pro shop being of a pretty good standard and some well designed holes and testing greens.
