Terrace Downs is a very scenic alpine course and rightly considered one of the best courses in NZ. Designed by Sid Pudicombe and Associates in 1993 and opened in December 2001 the course offers a links style challenge with a bare minimum of trees coming into play. Due to its location the weather can turn nasty and become rather unhospitable however if you are lucky enough to catch the course on a good day you will be rewarded with a unique challenge incorporating 11 lakes and 70 bunkers and the stunning backdrop of the Southern Alps and Rakaia River gorge.
The signature hole is the 16th. The short par three plays 100 metres off the regular tees and on the right hand side has a quite dramatic drop off into the Rakaia River and stunning views of the towering Mt Hutt ski field.
